For much of 2020, Balai Seni Maybank had to close its doors to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, we have been working on ways to stay in touch with the communities that we serve while still upholding our mission, which is to provide a platform for local artists and support the arts as an avenue of growth.

Merdeka Malaysia Millennial Exhibition

The government recently approved to lower the voting age of Malaysians from 21 to 18 years of age. With Generation Y or millennials (those born between the 1980s and 1990s) already forming a sizable part of the electorate, politicians from both sides of the divide must now also take into serious consideration the aspirations and the needs of those born between the mid 1990s and early 2000s, (collectively known as Gen Z) into their coming political ‘struggles’.

Batik Painting – An Exhibition and Tribute

Batik is an age old craft of wax resist dye technique on textile that was practiced by various cultures around the world though it is today most associated with this side of the region especially Indonesia, which had its batik designated by UNESCO as a masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2009.
