Handover of Mosque and Surau Constructed
KUALA KRAI, JULY 1ST 2015 - In observance of the Holy Month of Ramadan, Maybank Foundation together with MERCY Malaysia hosted a Ramadan Iftar at Masjid Al-Jauhar, Kuala Krai. It was also a meaningful handover ceremony of the reconstructed Masjid Al-Jauhar and the newly established Surau Perkampungan MERCY Tualang (PMT) by MERCY Malaysia and Maybank Foundation.
The iftar was held by Maybank Foundation to acknowledge and celebrate the bonds of friendship between the flood-affected community of Kuala Krai, Kelantan as well as MERCY Malaysia and the Foundation. Among those who were present at the Iftar was YBhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Megat Zaharuddin Megat Mohd Nor, Chairman of Maybank and Maybank Foundation, senior officials from MERCY Malaysia as well as a number of villagers from Kuala Krai.
“One of the worst floods to have hit the state of Kelantan in December 2014 still leaves us saddened as it not only damaged homes and buildings, but also caused so much suffering for the entire community. An organization with a mission to humanize financial services, Maybank was moved to render aid and support for the community through provision of relief supplies at that time. We were also glad to have been able to collaborate with MERCY Malaysia for the construction of Masjid Al-Jauhar and the newly established Surau PMT to allow the community to carry out their religious prayers and ceremonies. We hope this Mosque and Surau will help bring joy and blessings to the community especially during this month of Ramadhan,’’ said Tan Sri Megat Zaharuddin .
MERCY Malaysia added “The community of Kelantan has suffered a huge loss from the floods and it was crucial to rehabilitate Masjid Al-Jauhar and construct a whole new Surau for Perkampungan MERCY Tualang. We truly are happy to be here today, to have completed these two community buildings just right before the holy month of Ramadhan whilst having an opportunity to break fast with the villagers. MERCY Malaysia extends its deepest appreciation to Maybank Foundation as this would all not have been possible without their kind support.”
